Facts about diamonds

Lab diamonds ARE the same as naturally mined diamonds. They have the exact genetic make-up as mined diamonds. It’s really the same as comparing water that you have retrieved from the natural spring, vs water that has come out of the tap in your home – both still water, or comparing a glacier to the ice in your freezer.  One, formed in nature, one formed with the assistance of man-made technology.

Lab diamonds are cheaper than mined diamonds, for the very fact that no one had to spend thousands of dollars, loss of sweat and tears digging 150km below the earths surface in the hopes to find one. That effort deserves to be paid for, hence the premium pricing on naturally mined diamonds.

We like to use lab diamonds, because we feel that it is less harmful to the planet, and it means that the diamonds are 100% conflict free (Which is REALLY important to us)

Mined diamonds, and Lab diamonds are graded the same way, they have a cut, colour and Clarity Rating – these qualities will determine the price that you pay for your final ring.

We will help you find a range of stones that fall within your budget – and give you full control of the fine details that you are looking for.

Here are things that we are looking for when choosing your diamond:

Colour – D is the premium selection, colourless. E/F  near colourless, and in the higher sought after range.

H/I/J Colours are slightly warmer in tone, still reasonably colourless when standing alone.

K+ Colours are slightly warmer in colour again – having a slight yellowing tone to them.

We prefer to work with colours D-H

The think that is most important to us as we are selecting diamonds, is the clarity.

Top of the range clarity, is F – which means it is completely flawless, perfect in every way, next if IF which means internally flawless, near perfect under microscope– these will come at a top end premium price point.

VVS1/VVS2 – this means that the diamond has very, very slight inclusions they are typically only seen under microscope – this clarity will also fall in our premium rang.

VS1/VS2 – these diamonds are very slightly included – they have inclusions that you might be able to see with a jewellers loupe, but are typically eye clean which means you can’t see the inclusions with the naked eye.  This is the range that we typically work with.

SI1/SI2 – These are from the lower range of the diamonds – if we were to be looking in this range we would always look for a diamond were inclusions were unseen or hidden by the cut (facets) of the diamond.  Because the sparkle of the diamonds would hide the inclusion

Facts about gold

We can create your jewellery in any metal that you choose, we offer a wide range such as, yellow, rose and white gold available in 9-22kt in purity we can also supply Platinum and Palladium

What is gold purity?  What does Karat/Carat even mean in terms of Gold?

Gold purity is based on the percentage of gold used in your jewellery item.

Gold is made up of a mixture of alloys, and these are what help determine its strength and end colour.

While we can offer gold products in a lower purity such as 9/10Kt if we need to be mindful of your strict budget, we do prefer to use a minimum of 14Kt and a Maximum of 18Kt – as this keeps in line with creating fine jewellery for you and ensuring great durability and strength.

9Kt – 37.5% Gold with 62.5% Alloys

10Kt - 41.6% Gold with 58.4% Alloys

14Kt – 58% Gold with 42% Alloys

18Kt – 75% Gold with 25% Alloys

22Kt – 92% Gold with 8% Alloys
